R S Cockerill have entered an agreement to take on the long term tenancy of the potato land, grading and storage facilities of Albanwise Farming Ltd at Low Mowthorpe, near Malton. A farming operation specialising in seed potato production, that has had considerable levels of investment in recent years in modern cold storage and grading facilities.
As our crisping potato volumes continue to grow, and our fresh potato partnership with Aldi strengths, this is a key strategic move for our business. It will give us more control of our seed potato pipeline, strengthening the offering we present to our customers. The transition process has already started, in order for us to plant the 2024 season crop. We will be planting over 800 Acres (324 Ha) of seed and ware potatoes, and storing over 12,000t across various sites connected to the Albanwise organisation.
We are especially delighted to announce that we have promoted Joe Weston to head up this new venture. Working with Ben Tyreman, Joe will lead our Seed Potato Department. Over the coming weeks, Joe will transition away from his current role to be eventually based up at Low Mowthorpe. Agriculture and the whole food supply chain is undergoing some considerable turbulence at the moment, but this exciting opportunity gives us a more robust base on which to build on for the future.
