Potato planting underway at R S Cockerill Farms
Despite mild temperatures, recent localised rainfalls delayed the start, but now potato planting is well underway at R S Cockerill Farms. Seen here planting Arsenal at Link Hall, Wheldrake, Near York.
The majority of our own growing is processing varieties for Walkers, but the area of pre-packing varieties is increasing. This season the farming operation will be also be planting a fresh potato variety trial; benchmarking current varieties against those that have been identified as potential successors. A selection of varieties will be planted in commercial volumes, as well as trial plots of early generation varieties.
